Your Return to Sport
Returning to sport isn’t just about being pain-free. Return to sport rehabilitation at our Chirnside Park clinic is guided by how your body is actually responding — strength, control and confidence — rather than a fixed timeline, so your return is planned, not guessed.
This service is relevant after a wide range of injuries — from an ACL reconstruction through to general sport-related injuries — where a staged return matters as much as the initial treatment.
Who It Helps
- Athletes and active people returning to sport after a significant injury or surgery.
- People who have completed initial rehabilitation and are progressing towards full training or competition.
- People wanting objective VALD strength or movement testing to help guide return-to-sport decisions.
- People who’ve previously returned to sport too quickly and want a more structured approach this time.
Our Approach
Return to sport is guided by criteria — strength, movement control, confidence and how your body responds to increasing load — rather than a fixed timeframe. Assessment identifies where you’re at and what’s still needed before progressing further.
Where appropriate, we use VALD ForceDecks and Dynamo technology to add objective information — such as strength and side-to-side differences — alongside clinical assessment to help guide these decisions. This sits within our wider sports physiotherapy approach, and follows the same staged principles used in our ACL rehabilitation pathway.
Benefits
- Aims to support a safer, more structured return to sport or training.
- Can help identify what’s still needed before returning to full activity.
- May assist with reducing the risk of setbacks from returning too quickly.
- Combines objective VALD testing with clinical assessment to guide decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you decide when I'm ready to return to sport?
This is guided by criteria such as strength, movement control and how your body responds to increasing load, assessed progressively — rather than a fixed date.
Do I need to have had surgery to use this service?
No. Return to sport rehabilitation is relevant after a range of injuries, whether or not surgery was involved.
What if I've already returned to sport but I'm not confident in my body?
This is a common and valid reason to be assessed — confidence and movement quality are both part of what’s considered in a return-to-sport assessment.
Do you use objective testing as part of this service?
Yes — where it adds value, we use VALD ForceDecks and Dynamo technology to objectively test strength and movement capacity, informing return-to-sport decisions alongside your clinical assessment.
